Enterprise project will see students go to Olympic lengths

6 Jun 2008

Imagine if the Olympic Games came to Guisborough. This is the challenge that students at Laurence Jackson School will meet when they take part in their very own OIympic Enterprise Day.

Students at the specialist sports college will work in teams to plan, design and prepare a bid for Guisborough to host its very own Olympic Games.

The ‘bid writers’ will be hoping to follow in the footsteps of Lord Coe, whose powerful bid persuaded the judges that London was the best place to host the 2012 event.

As part of the project, tutor groups will be split into six smaller groups, each with a specific responsibility. These roles include planning the road, rail and air network for athletes and spectators; designing venues for different sporting events; designing the Olympic Village; creating the flag, logo and torch; producing publicity information and managing the team’s budget.

The teams will have just hours to research and put together their presentations before putting their bids to a panel of VIP delegates.

Plans for the Olympic Enterprise Day at Laurence Jackson have been put together with support from the local Enterprise Team. They are working with schools across Redcar & Cleveland to encourage young people to explore their enterprise skills.
