Freebrough Community College, in Brotton, has been working in partnership with the region’s favourite local radio station, TFM, as part of an enterprise project to create the school’s very own station.
The project was initially outlined by mentors from the Redcar and Cleveland enterprise team, who have worked closely with both TFM and Freebrough students and staff to advance the venture from start to finish.
To instigate the enterprising project and entice the youngsters to get involved, presenters, radio technicians and members of the TFM radio team visited the year eight pupils to explain their responsibilities.
Interested students then went through a formal application process and endured interviews with TFM’s regional managing director, programme director and station director to decide who would be appointed to run the radio station.
The triumphant students will fill 40 positions within the station, including marketing manager, street team members, station administrator, web editor, creative writers and of course, presenters amongst a number of other roles.
Freebrough has a modern radio suite, with the most up-to-date studio and recording technology, where the students will broadcast from in October.
